United National Party Parliamentarian Karu Jayasooriya states that he had opted to boycott the recent meeting organised by the United Bikkhu Front which was held at the Hyde Park grounds based on the legal advice he had received via attorney and the counsel from bikkhu's.
Speaking further Jayasoori also noted that he had received several requests from members of the public to abstain from attending the meeting which was held under the patronage of Leader of the Democratic National Alliance Sarath Fonseka.
However UNP MP Karu Jayasooriya also noted that he was willing to appear on behalf of party members who were suspended by the party temporarily.
The party memberships of 18 UNP members including that of party parliamentarians Palitha Range Bandara, Palitha Thewarapperuma & Ashoka Abeysinghe were suspended due to attending the rally which was held at the Hyde Park grounds on the 18th of this month.
Moreover the party memberships of UNP provincial councillors Shiral Lakthilleke, Maithree Gunarathna & 12 others were also suspended.
Meanwhile addressing a function held in Batticaloa today Deputy Minister of Higher Education Nandimithra Ekakanayeke expressed these views regarding the current status of the countries opposition.
