The pipeline transporting fuel from the Colombo Port to the Kolonnawa Oil Storage facility suffered leaks in two places today.

The first leak was reported near the Blumendal - Mahawatta region in the morning and the second leak occurred at a location near the Orugodawatta Fly Over.

The pumping of oil from the Colombo port to the Kolonnawa oil storage facility from oil tankers was temporarily halted due to this condition.

The Kolonnawa Storage facility stated that the situation has been brought under control.

However, the Chairman of the Kolonnawa CPC branch of the National Workers Association, Ananda Palitha stated that these leaks occurred due to excessive fuel pumping from the Colombo port to the Kolonnawa storage facility due to  Sapugaskanda oil refinery not functioning.

However, the regulatory authority of the Kolonnawa oil storage facility refutes these allegations.

Speaking to our news team the media spokesperson of the Kolonnawa Oil Storage Facility Nissanka Jayawardena stated that the prevalent rainy weather has been the cause for the leaks.
