A meeting of the UNP working committee is currently underway at the party headquarters in Sirikotha headed by party Leader Ranil Wickramasinge.
Sources inside the party state that the decision regarding the membership suspension of UNP members Palitha Rangebandara, Palitha Thevarapperuma, Ashok Abeysinghe, Shiral Lakthilaka and Maitreee Gunaratne, who attended the rally of Satath Fonseka, will be presented to the working committee.
A discussion regarding the party general convention is also scheduled today.
Sources further state that attention will be focused on proposals to be presented at the general convention such as choosing of a party leader every 6 years.
The UNP working committee is also scheduled to discuss the proposed Radical Change Policy today.
Meanwhile speaking at a press conference held in Colombo today, UNP general secretary parliamentarian Tissa Attanayaka expressed various views regarding the judiciary.
He also spoke regarding several letters presented in parliament last week by deputy minister Jayantha Herath.
When our news team inquired regarding this from deputy minister Jayaratne Herath, he stated that he only presented 2 letters.
UNP general secretary parliamentarian Tissa Attanayaka also stated that there are rumours of an impeachment being brought against the Chief Justice.
However during a press conference held in Colombo on the 10th of October, a journalist questioned from Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva regarding such an impeachment and the minister responded in the following manner.
The UNP is stating that it is inviting all political parties to come to a common agreement for the sake of the independence of the judiciary.
