The UNP in the Radical statement approved by the UNP working committee yesterday stated that a strong new constitution should be established based on a representative government.

It is stated that the new constitution should include, judicial sovereignty, establishing of independent commissions, room for devolution of power, and the limiting of the tenure in office for officials such as the president.

Furthermore, this statement includes the proposals that a representative government should be established that safeguards the sovereignty of the public and a cabinet that is responsible for the parliament.

Meanwhile, at a Lak Wanitha Front workshop held at the Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya being held today, former JVP MP Anjan Umma who crossed over to the JNP obtained the membership of the UNP today.

UNP Party leader Ranil Wickramasinghe inducted her into the party during the workshop and also appointed her as an organizer in the Gampaha district.
