The charges arraigned in the impeachment filed against Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayeke have come to light.
The impeachment motion against the Chief Justice was handed over to the Speaker by MPs Arundika Fernando, L. Alagiyawanna and Shanth Bandara with the signatures of 117 MPs.
Mp's who handed over the impeachment subsequently convened a media briefing at the Government Information Department.
Minister Pavithra Wanniarachci who expressed her views to the media at the venue that alleged accusations over the improper behaviour of Dr. Shirani
Bandaranayeke had led to the impeachment being filed against her.
Moreover journalists present during the media briefing inquired of Minister Wanniarachchi if all 117 MP's had placed their signature on the impeachment
upon having read the total number of charges arraigned against Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranaike.

Current Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranaike was appointed on the 18th of May 2011 to her post.
She also goes on record as the countries 43rd Chief Justice as well as the very first female Chief Justice.
