Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe says that the Government has created a situation for people to be talking about the 13th Amendment as a strategy to minimise people's attention on price of fuel that would be increased in the near future.
Participating at a party meeting held in Kurunegala yesterday the Opposition Leader said that the UNP should give leadership for the programme of making the people take to the streets in protest against the Government's moves.
The Opposition Leader also said that if the UNP did not do so this opportunity would be grabbed by some other group.
Meanwhile Provincial Agricultural Minister Nimal Piyatissa who participated at a rally held in Hangurangketa yesterday also expressed his views about the Provincial Council System.
The Provincial Minister said that Provincial Council was not an institution that contributed favourably for development.
Provincial Agricultural Minister Nimal Piyathissa also said that the Provincial Council System was not a system required for society.
However Minister Dinesh Gunawardhana says that through a new election system that abolishes the preferential voting system no injustice will be done for minorities.
The Minister said so while participating at an awareness meeting with regard to the Local Government Institutions Amendments passed in parliament held for local government representatives at the Awissawela - Seetaawakapura auditorium yesterday.
