The International Community has conceded that Sri Lanka needs further time to address the crucial issues within the country.
This was subsequent to the United Nations Human Rights Council Universal Periodic Review which was held in Geneva yesterday where Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe, Special Envoy to the President on Human Rights delivered a statement regarding the country’s situation and what it had achieved thus far.
Following the Minister’s speech, 99 other countries delivered short statements concerning Sri Lanka and the prepared statement by Minister Samarasinghe.
Most of the countries commended Sri Lanka on completing the resettlement process in the conflict areas while the US drew attention to the remaining problems.
