Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha says that work at the temporarily closed Sapugaskanda Refinery would resume today or tomorrow.

Speaking to our news team the Minister said further that the essential maintenance work of the Refinery was currently reaching completion.

The Petroleum Corporation had temporarily suspended the work of the Sapugaskanda Refinery for about 10 days  from 26th October.

Sapugaskanda Refinery Managing Director L. E. Susantha Silva told our news team that non delivery of sufficient stock of crude oil at the Refinery was the reason for the temporary suspension of work at the Refinery.

The Sapugaskanda Refinery MD said that it had been planned to deploy the Refinery employees for carrying out  several essential maintenance work during the time regular work at the Refinery was put on hold.

The importing of crude oil required for the Sapugaskanda Refinery had been delayed.

However CPC sources said that a ship containing a stock of crude oil that had been ordered  had reached the Colombo harbour.
