Speaker Chamal Rajapakse is scheduled to inform parliament about the motion of impeachment against the Chief Justice when parliamentary activities begin this afternoon.
Parliament’s Secretary General Dhammika Dasanayake told our news team that mention regarding this motion has also been made in the parliamentary agenda.
The impeachment motion against the Chief Justice signed by 117 MPs was handed over to the Speaker last Thursday.
Participating at a people's rally held in Kundasale yesterday Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwaelle said that the impeachment motion put forward against the Chief Justice was in accordance with the constitution.
The Minister said that if a person acts above the country's law, taking action as mentioned in the constitution, was not carrying out the law of the jungle.
The Association of High Court Judges has decided not to make any statement or take any action regarding the impeachment motion against Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake.
The decision was taken yesterday at a meeting held by the association.
