The UNP is proposing that the select committee appointed with regard to the impeachment of the chief justice be one with judicial powers.
However, Minister of Mass Media Keheliya Rambukwella stated that the impeachment brought against the chief justice is constitutional.
The minister made this statement while taking part in a press conference held in Kundasale.
Taking part in a press conference held in Colombo today, UNP general secretary parliamentarian Tissa Attanayaka made the following proposals regarding the select committee.
However, Minister Dulles Alahapperuma stated that all parties can join in the discussions regarding the impeachment proposal to reach a solution.
Meanwhile, our news team inquired from the parliamentary general secretary Dhammika Dasanayaka whether the parliamentary select committee has judicial powers as stated by the UNP.
He stated that any parliamentary select committee has ample authority to summon letters and documents, witnesses and bank reports.
