Parliament has taken action to appoint a 11-member select committee in connection with the impeachment motion put forward with regard to the Chief Justice.
A senior ruling party spokesman said that seven persons representing the Government party and four persons representing the Opposition would be included in the Select Committee.
The Senior Spokesperson said further that accordingly the members appointed for the Select Committee will be revealed in the near future.
The impeachment motion has been put forward against the Chief Justice under 14 charges.
Meanwhile Chief Opposition Whip John Amaratunga told our news team that two persons from the UNP and one each from the TNA and the DNA would be named for the Select Committee from the Opposition.
The two persons named by the UNP will be named by the party leadership within the next few days.
In addition DNA parliamentary group leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that a final decision had not yet been taken with regard to putting forward a DNA representative for the Select Committee.
The DNA parliamentary group leader said the JVP politburo would meet and a decision would be taken in the near future.
Meanwhile TNA leader MP R. Sambandan told our news team that although TNA too hopes to participate in the Select Committee, so far a final decision has not been taken with regard to it.
