A group of parents who had enrolled their children to grade one of Wariyapola Sri Sumangala National College next year engaged in a protest before the school this morning.
Parent's who engaged in the protest charge that since the government had included the Wariyapola Sri Sumangala College into its '1000 schools' programme, their children had been subject to injustice.
They also charged that the schools principal had issued written notification to parents yesterday that steps would be taken to remove the schools primary division with immediate effect.
Owing to this parents state that their children have been deprived of a school
for next year.
Our attempts to contact the Secretary to the Ministry of Education in this regard however proved futile.
Subsequently the views North Western Province Educational Director
J.G.M. Thilllakarathna was obtained, who went on to state that notification had been issued to the schools principal to abstain from making enrolments to the schools first grade.
Speaking further he also noted that the principal had acted in contravention to the instructions issued by the ministry.
In conclusion he noted that the children of these parents would be provided with alternate schools as a solution.
