The Jathika Hela Urumaya combined with the National Freedom Front has called for the abrogation of the 13th amendment to the constitution.
Both parties called for the withdrawal of the 13th during a joint media briefing which was held in Colombo this morning, which marks a first in the histories of both parties.
Expressing his views during the media briefing Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka noted that the country had run into a series of complicated issues owing to the provincial council system which was established under the 13th amendment to the constitution.
He also noted that issues may be experienced in future if the Northern provincial council decides to withhold its decision when passing a bill.
Hence Minister Champika called for the immediate withdrawal of the 13th amendment to the constitution.
Meanwhile Leader of the National freedom From Wimal Weerawansa expressing his views noted that the government should take maximum usage of the parliaments 2/3rd's majority which it posses to abrogate the 13th.
United Peoples Freedom Alliance Provincial Councillor Ujith Anuradha meanwhile expressed these views regarding the 13th amendment to the constitution during a meeting which was held at the North central Provincial Council's auditorium.
