The naming of the UNP representatives for the Parliamentary Select Committee to be appointed with regard to the impeachment put forward against the Chief Justice is scheduled to take place today.
Chief Opposition Whip UNP MP John Amaratunga elaborating on the subject to our news team stated as follows:
An eleven-member Parliamentary Select Committee is scheduled to be appointed against Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake.
Seven persons from the ruling party and four from the Opposition will be appointed for this.
While two UNPers will be named for this it has been decided to allow one representative each from the JVP and the TNA to be named for the relevant PSC.
Meanwhile the JVP has not appointed a representative for the PSC yet.
Responding to a query by our news team, JVP Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath said that their representative was expected to be named within the next few days.
Replying to a query by our news team a TNA spokesman said that the naming of their representative was scheduled to take place within the next few days.
However the seven members representing the ruling party too have not been named so far.
Government sources said that most probably the naming of the ruling party representatives would take place today.
Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody said that accordingly the naming of the PSC probing the impeachment to be put forward against the Chief Justice is scheduled to take place before the 10th instant.
