All sluice gates of Thabbowa reservoir opened

Four sluice gates of the Rajanganaya Reservoir have been opened at present.

According to Deputy Director of the Irrigation Departments Water Management Unit, Janaki Meegasthanna those occupying the low level areas of the reservoir are advised to remain vigilant.

Moreover 20 sluice gates of the Thabbowa reservoir have also been opened.

According to the Centre for Disaster Management 67 families residing in the village of Thambapanni in the Karuwalagaswewa Divisional Secretariat have been evacuated owing to the water levels of the Mee Oya increasing.

Meegasthanne further noted that the sluice gates of 9 reservoirs which are under the purview of the Department of Irrigation have been opened at present.

According to the Centre for Disaster Management 969 persons belonging to 192 families are still being sheltered at 16 camps due to last week's inclement weather.

Meanwhile according to the Department of Meteorology, thunder showers have been predicted for the remainder of the evening.

According to Duty Meteorologist at the Met Department Nanda Lal Peiris heavy showers maybe experienced in catchment areas.
