President Mahinda Rajapaksa presented the 2013 Budget before Parliament today in his capacity as Minister of Finance & Planning.
This is Sri Lanka's 66th Budget and the 8th Budget presented by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as Minister of Finance.
The President commenced the Budget speech at one this afternoon and made his presentation for over two and a half hours.
Expressing his views President Rajapaksa highlighted 3 main aspects of next years budget.
Presenting the 2013 budget speech President Rajapaksa proposed an increase of state servants allowances to 1500 rupees.
Moreover it was also proposed to provide an ancillary cost of living allowance of rupees 500 to all pensioners.
Farmers who had been adversely affected by the recent drought would have the interest waved off their loan facilities as part of the Presidents 2013 budget proposal presented to parliament today.
Furthermore under 2013 budget proposal it has been decided to increase the revenue license cost of motor vehicles.
President Rajapaksa speaking before parliament expressed the following views in this regard.
Moreover the importation cost on foreign liquor has also been increased during next year's budget proposal.
