MP Arjuna Ranatunga states that he has resigned from his post of deputy leader in the Democratic Party led by Sarath Fonseka and also from the party itself.
However, he further stated that he will continue to act as a member of the Democratic National Alliance.
Democratic National Alliance MP Tiran Alles who held the post of general secretary of the Democratic Party of Sarath Fonseka also resigned although he did not state clear reasons for resigning.
As of now, the posts of Deputy Leader and General Secretary of the Democratic Party led by Sarath Fonseka are vacant.
However, when our news team inquired from party chairman Jayantha Katagoda regarding this he stated that although the Democratic Party has applied for registration with the Elections Commissioner it has not yet received approval and that it is a good thing that members are leaving the party before it becomes a recognized political party.
