The National Centre for the Prevention of Thalassemia states that 14,000 carriers have been identified at present.

According to the Chief Medical officer of the Centre, Dayananda Bandara

7% of the financial subsidies allocated for the sector are spent on patients effected with Thalassemia.

Addressing a function held in Kurunegala, Dayananda Bandara made the following observations in this regard.


Speaking further the Chief Medical Officer of the National Centre for the Prevention of Thalassemia expressed these views regarding the decease.
