The government states that it is prepared to present a constitutional amendment which will resolve the national crisis.
The amendment which will be legally termed the 19th amendment will include
options for the devolution of power and will attempt to do away with the existing provincial council system.
It is reported that constitutional amendment bill is due to be presented before the parliamentary select committee appointed to formulate solutions for the national issue.
Meanwhile the Tamil National Alliance has been extended an invitation by the government to join the PSC, with the government stating that it remains ready to provide the additional time frame required by the TNA to draw a final decision in this regard.
According to informed sources the 19th amendment to the constitution would be an alternative to the already existing 13th amendment to the constitution.
