Minister of Rehabilitation & Prison Reforms Chandrasiri Gajadheera states that the report compiled by the 3 person committee appointed to investigate the recent unrest which occurred at the Welikada Prison Complex would be handed over to him within the course of the next two to three days.
Based on this committee report, a full fledged report on the incident would be compiled.
Expressing his views to our news team in this regard Minister Gajadheera noted that the net cost of damages incurred by the incident amounts to 5 million rupees.
Meanwhile the 3 person committee appointed to investigate the Welikada prison clash will commence obtaining statements from witnesses tomorrow.
According to Chairman of the committee Prisons Commissioner A.A. Wickremesinghe the officials attached to the committee had obtained observatory statements onsite yesterday.
Moreover the post-mortem examinations of the 27 deceased individuals were conducted today while the magisterial inquest is said to have concluded yesterday.
Sources at the Colombo National hospital confirm that the 27 individual who had sustained injuries in yesterday altercation still continue to receive treatment at the hospital.
These patients include 20 prison inmates, 3 military personnel & 3 Special Task Force personnel.
General Secretary of the JVP Tilvin Silva meanwhile addressing a media briefing held in Colombo today expressed these views regarding the recent crisis which was witnessed at the Welikada prison complex.
Chief Secretary of the New Sama Smaja Party Dr. Wickramabahu Karunarathna also commented on the Welikada incident in the following manner.
