The emergency transfer presented to the officer In Charge of the Kahawaththa Police has been declared void, there by reinstating him once again as the OIC of the Kahawaththa police.
According to a Senior Spokesperson attached to the Police Media Unit, Inspector
Niranjan Abeywardhana has been reassigned to the Kahawaththa police station, who had been transferred to the Police Field Force Headquarters earlier.
Prior to the elapse of 24 hours this transfer was declared void & IP Niranjan Aneywardhana was reinstated as the OIC of the Kahawaththa Police station.
Area residents of Kahawaththa engaged in a protest yesterday, closing down shops in the area and demanding for the reinstatement of the Kahawaththa Police OIC who had been investigating the spate of murders in Kotakethana.
A Senior Government recently had requested of the President as well as the Inspector General of Police cancel the transfer given to the OIC of the Kahawaththa police.
Meanwhile Senior Superintendent of Police Vaas Gunawardhana assumed office as the SSP in charge of the Rathnapura District this morning.
Expressing his views at a media briefing held at the Government Department of Information, Minister W.D.J. Senevirathna added that all female victims' of the Kahawaththa serial murders except two women had all been sexually abused.
