Red rain in Manampitiya as well; Medical Research Institute begins tests

The Medical Research Institute has begun tests with regard to the red liquid that fell with the rain experienced in the Polonnaruwa - Manampitiya and Sevanagala – Indi-kola-palassa areas.

Director of the MRI Dr. Anil Smaranayaka stated that he has issued instructions to the district medical officers to send samples of rain water that fell in those areas to the MRI.

The residents of the Polonnaruwa - Manampitiya region stated that a red liquid has fallen with the intermittent rain that began at 7am today while a substantial amount of this red liquid fell in the Manampitiya, Seela-pura region and in the Sevanagala – Indi-kola-palassa region yesterday.

Our news team inquired from the meteorological department with regards to the red liquid falling with the rain.

Director of the Met department S. R. Jayasekara stated that with vaporization a type of algae mixing with the atmosphere can cause such a phenomenon.
