The government information department said yesterday that the government has decided to paint vehicles used for passenger transport in different colours.

Cabinet approved the proposal made by the Minister of transport Kumara Welgama.

Accordingly, Private passenger transport busses will be painted in Light Blue, Public passenger transport buses of SLTB in Red and Vehicles used as School Vans and School Buses in Yellow.

Our news team inquired from the Lanka Private Bus Owners' union about this decision.

Union chairman Gaemunu Wijeratne said that action would be taken to inform the private bus transport services Minister in writing stating their  protest against this decision.

However we inquired about this also from persons engaged in the service of transporting schoolchildren.

All Island inter district schoolchildren transport service union secretary Kithsiri Amarasiri said that the Government's decision that painting should thus be done instantly was unfair.

The Secretary said that although they were agreeable to carry out painting thus, it should be made compulsory only to school vans that newly launch into schoolchildren transport service.
