The Minister of Education today stated that the health ministry is conducting investigations into the minor incidents of a large number of students in the Kandy and Ratnapura districts contracting an allergy.
This was in reply to a question raised by journalists during a press conference held at the department of information.
Meanwhile, 87 students of the Balangoda - Weligepola Sri Somadevi primary school were admitted to Weligepola hospital after contracting an allergy.
Director of the hospital K. I. Sanjeewa stated that a majority of the students have been discharged after being treated.
The ministry of health has decided to deploy teams of doctors to conduct special medical tests in the regions where students had contracted allergies.
Each team will consist of an epidemiologist, a physician, paediatrician and a dermatologist.
However, minister of education Bandula Gunawardena stated that students contracting allergies is a minor incident.
