Reports state that some biological activity has been found in the samples of the red rain that was experienced recently.

The ministry of health stated this discovery was made during the tests conducted by the Medical Research Institute.

However, the tests conducted have not been able to confirm what the biological activity is and it has been assumed that it is being caused by some type of algae or bacteria.

It has been decided to forward these samples to the Mechanical Technology Institute or the Nano Technology institute for further tests.

Speaking to our news team the additional secretary of the Mechanical Technology Institute Ananda Pannila stated that tests will begin as soon as the samples are received from MRI.

Red Rain was experienced in the Sevanagala - Indikolapalassa region on Wednesday and the Polonnaruwa - Manampitiya and Ampara - Padiyathalawa regions yesterday.

The director of MRI Dr. Anil Samaranayaka stated that it would be dangerous to drink the red rain water.
