Gas leak will not affect refinery activities - Says CPC

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation states that the gas leak that occurred yesterday at the Sapugaskanda oil refinery has not affected the refinery activities.

Media spokesperson of the CPC Nishshanka Jayawardena stated that no fuel shortage will occur due to this incident.

Two individuals died as a result of a gas leak that occurred in a pipeline conveying poisonous gasses and 7 others were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital and 4 others were admitted to the Ragama Teaching Hospital.

However, director of the Colombo National Hospital Anil Jasinghe stated that two of the patients admitted to the Colombo National Hospital were in serious condition.

The employees who had gone to repair the leak that had occurred in the gas pipeline yesterday afternoon had inhaled the noxious gases.
