The 2nd Reading of the 2013 Budget was passed in parliament this evening by a majority of 103 votes.

A total of 156 votes were cast in favour of the budget while 53 votes were cast against.

According to our parliamentary correspondent MP's representing the United National Party as well as the Tamil National Alliance had voted against the budget.

According to a request tendered in by the Leader of the House, Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva, voting on the budget got underway nominally.

Moreover 15 MP's had been absent during the 2nd reading of the 2013 budget vote.
