Minister of Health Maithreepala Sirisena has decided to establish special disciplinary committees at hospitals & institutions affiliated to the Ministry of Health to investigate allegations of abuse committed against females.

According to the subject ministry this move comes in the light of escalating complaints being received at the ministry in this regard.

A spokesperson from the ministry noted that 8 to 10 complaints of this nature are reported at the ministry on a weekly basis, while the victims of these crimes are often subjected to injustice owing to the absence of a proper mechanism to investigate such allegations.
