Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody says that the PSC against the Chief Justice will meet today as scheduled.
The Deputy Speaker said that the Chief Justice too had been informed to appear before the PSC today.
However the Supreme Court yesterday submitted a recommendation to the PSC that it was fitting that the work of the PSC appointed for investigating the impeachment charges levelled against Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake was not carried out.
The Deputy Speaker said that the Supreme Court's recommendations had so far not reached parliament.
The PSC appointed for investigating the impeachment against the Chief Justice comprises 11 members.
While it is chaired by Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva, Susil Premajayantha, Dilan Perera, Wimal Weerawansa, Rajitha Senaratne and Deputy Minister Niyomaal Perera represent the Government.
MPs John Amaratunga, Lakshman Kiriella, Vijitha Herat and R. Sambandan have been appointed to represent the Opposition at the PSC.
Meanwhile UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella says that he believes that action should be carried out according to the recommendations the Supreme Court had made in reference to the work of investigations of the PSC pertaining to impeachment against the Chief Justice.
The MP said so in response to a query our news team made on the subject.
