The Parliamentary Select Committee appointed to investigate the impeachment motion filed against Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranaike convened at 10.30 this morning at committee room number one in parliament.
Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranaike who was instructed to be present before the PSC for its proceedings, was at the parliament this morning.
The Supreme Court yesterday recommended the PSC to defer its probe until the determination on Article 107 (3) of the Constitutional, which deals with the impeachment of a judge, is made by the Supreme Court.
Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkodi expressing his views to our news team confirmed that it had received the recommendations provided by the countries apex court this morning.
Future arbitration on the matter will be decided following today's session of the PSC.
The PSC appointed for investigating the impeachment against the Chief Justice comprises 11 members.
While it is chaired by Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva, Susil Premajayantha, Dilan Perera, Wimal Weerawansa, Rajitha Senaratne and Deputy Minister Niyomaal Perera represent the Government.
MPs John Amaratunga, Lakshman Kiriella, Vijitha Herat and R. Sambandan have been appointed to represent the Opposition at the PSC.
