Issuing a media release the Middle Eastern Division of the Ministry of External Affairs states that Sri Lanka is deeply concerned and disturbed at the recent serious escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip and deeply regrets the loss of lives and the great suffering experienced by the people of Palestine.

It also states that Sri Lanka strongly believes the use of force and militaristic threats should be halted and & a resolution for the conflict should be sought through peace talks.

Meanwhile JVP & the Jana Aragala Movement an affiliate of the Front Line Socialist Party both took part in a protest organised by the Palestine Cooperation Foundation to denounce the escalation of violence in the Gaza strip.
