The region of Kahawatta – Kotakethana tensed up again with the arrival of the elder brother of the suspects, of the dual murder that took place on the 31st of January and the 19th of July in the region.
The suspects, former provincial councillor L. S. Dharmasiri and L. S. Mithila, are still in remand custody.
He had arrived in the region in a trishaw with his wife to collect an item from the house belonging to him which had been abandoned since the murders, angering the villagers in the process.
According to our regional correspondent after he and his wife had entered the house, a group of close to 100 villagers had gathered at the house and behaved in an unruly manner and later on the crowd had swelled close to 500 causing the police difficulty in controlling the crowd.
UNP general secretary Tissa Attanayaka, speaking at a press conference held in Colombo made the following statement regarding the murders that took place in Kahawatta.
