5 deaths during past 24 hours due to disasters: heavy thunder showers tonight

5 deaths have been reported due to the inclement weather which continues to affect 4 districts in the island.

3 deaths were reported from Neluwa Galle, where the victims had been washed away by strong water currents.

Meanwhile the other mortality is being reported from Ambagamuwa-Nuwara Eliya.

A total of 1164 persons belonging to 347 families have been distressed by the adverse weather conditions in the districts of Galle, Hambanthota Nuwara-Eliya

& Monaragala.

Moreover 14 homes have been completely destroyed, where as 161 units have sustained partial damages.

In further developments a youth who had been working at a field in

Rathmalgaha Ala-Dambulla last evening had been struck by lightning.

According to Duty Meteorologist at the Department of Meteorology Pabodhini Karunapala gayle force winds & thundershowers would continue to effect several parts of the island tonight.
