The Ministry of Internal Trade has decided to call in an inventory report on stocks of all essential goods island wide, both in the possession of the government & private sector.
According to sources at the ministry, subject minister Johnston Fernando has instructed officials at the ministry to finalise the compilation of the report within a week.
The Ministry of Internal Trade states that information has come to light regarding errant trades who plan on increasing the control prices of essential goods, concurrent to the upcoming festive season.
These goods primarily consist of stocks of rice.
Hence the aim of the report is to gain insight into the existing stocks of essential goods within the country.
Moreover the Ministry of Internal Trade states that following the report if it is learnt that stocks of essential goods are depleted, countermeasures would be taken to fortify stocks of essential goods.
