The total number of deaths caused by inclement weather has increased to 7.

According to Deputy Media Director of the Centre for Disaster Management Sarath Lal Kumara these deaths have been caused due to lightning strikes & collapse of earth embankments.

These deaths are being reported from the Rathnapura, Ambalanthota, Galle & Dambulla areas.

Meanwhile the Districts of Galle & Mathara have been battered heavily by incessant showers while the districts of Hambanthota, Rathnapura &

Nuwara Eliya have been partially effected.

Several deaths were reported during the past week due to the collapse of earth embankments over homes.

According to the National Building Research Organisation substandard construction & poor attention paid to location planning of these homes have led to their destruction.

R.M.S. Bandara Head of the NBRO's Land Slide Division requests of the public to pay more attention when constructing homes set against such a backdrop.

Meanwhile the Department of Meteorology predicts that the inclement weather conditions may persist during the course of the approaching week.
