A center selling snakes belonging to rare genera to foreigners in the Koggala region had been raided today by the wildlife protection authority.

A senior spokesperson of the department of wildlife stated that several foreigners were present at the location when the raid took place.

The snake selling centre was being run by an ayurvedic doctor and at the time of the raid 18 species of snakes belonging to 8 genera were found on the premises.

The doctor had charged 800 rupees as an entrance fee and investigations have uncovered that certain snakes have been sold for hundreds and thousands of rupees.
