A private bus strike had begun by now this morning on a number of routes in support of the strike the private buses had launched on several routes two days ago over the granting of an unauthorised route permit.
Lanka Private Bus owners' Association chairman Gemunu Wijeratna said that this strike will be carried out on High Level Road routes including route numbers 138, 190, 170 and 122 and on all routes connected with these.
A private bus strike was launched last Monday on route number 255 Kottaawa - Mt Lavinia, and route number 174 Kottaawa- Borella.
Subsequently route number 138 Pettah -Kottawa Homagama too joined the strike.
The private bus strike initiated in protest of the proposition to reduce the number of limited bus stops assigned to the long distance buses travelling from the Southern Province concluded last afternoon.
The strike was called off following a discussion held between the chairman of the National Transportation Commission, the Deputy Inspector General of traffic, and the relevant bus association representatives.
