Private bus strike continues; Crucial discussion begins

The chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners Association, Gemunu Wijeratne states the private bus strike that is being carried out includes all buses plying the route numbers, 138, 190, 170, 125 and 122 and all connected routes.

The strike was initiated on Monday with the buses plying route number 255 between Kottawa - Mount Lavinia and route number 174 between Kottawa and Borella following the issuing of an illegal route permit and was later joined by the buses plying route number 138 between Kottawa and Pettah.

Inter provincial buses travelling along the high level road have also expressed their consent to join this strike.

The secretary of the All Island Private Bus Owners Federation, Anjana Priyanjith stated that as a result of that, the buses travelling between Colombo - Ratnapura, Colombo - Badulla and Colombo Ambilipitya will be joining the strike.

However, a meeting has begun between the minister of transportation and the private bus owners associations that are engaged in the strike and it is reported that the Lanka Private Bus Owners Association and the All Island Private Bus Owners Federation have also joined the discussion.

Meanwhile, speaking at a press conference organized by the All Island Private Bus Owners Federation its secretary Upul Premasiri stated that a decision has been taken not to wear uniforms from midnight of the 30th of this month based on several demands including job security.
