President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that the International Day of Cooperation with the Palestinian People helped to remember that the Palestinian people were still deprived of the right to self-determination, independence and sovereignty.
The President has stated so in a message released in connection with the said International Day which falls today.
The Sri Lankan people have been in solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle carried out for several decades for winning justice and their rights.
The President's message says that in future too the Sri Lankan people will continue to have the same solidarity with the Palestinian people.
The final goal should be to set up an Independent Palestinian State.
Every opportunity for peace should be relentlessly sought and the peace process should be implemented.
The message said further that this was important for peace in the Middle East.
