Parts of several human skeletons and bones including 2 skulls were recovered this morning from the mass grave found in the grounds of the Matale District General Hospital.
Our news correspondent stated that the security has already been tightened at the site.
During excavation activities carried out yesterday afternoon 6 other skulls were unearthed.
This mass grave was discovered on the hospital grounds when the ground was being prepared for the construction of a new building.
The recovered bones and skeleton fragments have been placed in the custody of the Matale Police Headquarters.
Further excavation activities are being carried out subsequent to an order issued by the District Judge.
However, the time period that these bones and skeletons belong to have not yet been determined.
Deputy Minister of Transportation Rohana Dissanayaka, who visited the site, stated that further investigations need to be carried out regarding this.
