The Speaker yesterday said that he did not accept any order issued to parliament by outside institutions and that he rejected them.
Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa said so while expressing his view about the Privileges Query leader of the house Nimal Siripala de Silva raised yesterday.
Referring to privileges issue the Leader of the House revealed that Court had issued notice to members of the PSC appointed with regard to the impeachment of the Chief Justice.
Similarly the said PSC members have been cited as respondents in the petitions filed in court against the same PSC.
Considering this privileges issue, the Speaker ruled that outside institutions could not exert influence on the PSC appointed for probing the impeachment against the Chief Justice.
Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa said that he was acting in accordance with the ruling his predecessor Speaker Anura Bandaranaike had given on 20th June 2001.
Speaker of that time Anura Bandaranaike had said that no outside institution could exert impact on parliamentary rulings.
Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa presenting his stand on the matter in parliament yesterday stated as follows:
Accordingly the Speaker also said that he rejected orders given by outside institions to the committee he had appointed.
On this occasion the Speaker said further that these orders of his as well as orders issued by him as Speaker of Parliament in the future would be relevant to the activities of the PSC appointed by him.
