The minister of health has issued instruction to stop the tender to purchase 100 expensive fumigation units when they can be purchased at a cheaper price.
The National Dengue Eradication Unit had decided to purchase these units and the minister of health had approved the tender.
Subsequently the minister had received reports of irregularities with regards to the tender procedure and Minister of Health Maithrepala Sirisena had issued an order to cancel the tender.
According to the tender, a fumigation unit was priced at 148 thousand rupees whereas a unit could have been purchased for 87 thousand 946 rupees.
An inquiry has been launched by the ministry of health with regards to the official who tried to mislead the ministry in this manner.
