The 54th Convention of the United National Party will be held this morning at the Sirikotha Party headquarters.
Over 5,800 party representatives have been invited for the Convention.
Among them are Parliamentarians, representatives of affiliated institutions and electoral organizers.
2 proposals including extending the tenure of party leadership up to 6 years and adopting the radical statement of the party will be taken up at the convention.
Speaking regarding the Convention UNP General Secretary MP Tissa Attanayake expressed these views.
Speaking further he also had this to say
However, the organizers have made special security arrangements for the convention unlike ever before.
Security Personnel of MP’s will not be allowed to carry weapons with them to the Sirikotha premises.
This particular matter was taken up for discussion in parliament as well.
Accordingly, UNP MP’s Ranjith Madduma Bandara, Harin Fernando, Dayasiri Jayasekara and UPFA MP Sajin De Vass Gunawardana and Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody expressed their views pertaining to the matter.
