The World AIDS Prevention Day is observed today.
Since 1995, the 01st of December has been designated as World AIDS Prevention Day.
During a 15 year period since 1981, the AIDS virus has claimed the lives of nearly thirty million individuals.
According to the Directress of the Family Planning Association Dr. Madhusha Dissanayeke the AIDS virus has caused 1597 mortalities in Sri Lanka, which includes 56 child mortalities as well.
According to Dr. Dissanayeke more AIDS related cases have begun to emerge in the island concurrent to far reaching awareness programmes
