IUSF and FUTA called in a media briefing concerning the arrest of the Jaffna University student activists

The Inter University Students Federation as well as the Federation of University Teachers Association called in a joint media briefing in Colombo today with concern to the student activists of the University of Jaffna who were placed under arrest recently.

President of  FUTA Dr. Nimal Ranjith Dewasiri speaking during the media briefing added that if students were being arrested based on their activities the end result would be of grim nature.

Sanjeewa Bandara, Convenor of the Inter University Students Federation who also expressed his views during the media briefing stressed that despite the elapse of 48 hours following the arrest of these students, no course of action had been taken yet.

When inquired from Police Media Spokesperson SSP Prishantha Jayakodi in this regard he stated that the students being held for interrogation based on a 72 hour detention order provided by the Vavuniya Magistrate.
