Opposition Leader of the Colombo Municipal Council Mohamed Maharoof has passed away at a private hospital in Colombo this morning.
The Former UNP Minister and Opposition Leader of the Colombo Municipal Council was admitted to hospital at around 9 this morning following a heart attack.
According to a hospital spokesperson Mohammed Maharoof had passed away a few moments following his admission to hospital.
Mohammed Maharoof a father of 3 children was 55 years old at the time of his demise.
Late Mohammed Maharoof who was close acquaintance of late President Ranasinghe Premadasa entered politics as member of the CMC.
Elected to the UNP's working Committee in 1994, Late Mohammed Maharoof was served as the UNP's Central Colombo Organiser in 1998.
Making his entry to parliament during the year 2000 General Election the late Maharoof served as a parliamentarian until 2010.
The final rights of Late Mohammed Maharroof will be observed at the Maligawaththa Public Muslim Burial grounds this evening.
