The Parliamentary Select Committee appointed to investigate the impeachment motion, gathered for the second time under the patronage of Chairman Anura Priyadarshana Yapa.
The PSC is scheduled to convene tomorrow at 10.30 and speaking to our news team a parliamentary spokesperson stated that the Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayaka is scheduled to appear before the PSC on the 6th of this month.
The PSC convened on the 23rd of November for the first time.
Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake arrived at Parliament this morning to appear before the PSC and was at the parliament till 5pm today.
Meanwhile, all religious leaders engaged in a sathyagraha at the entrance to the Supreme Court Complex prior to the Chief Justice leaving the Supreme Court.
During the sathyagraha the Chief Justice had left the Supreme Court complex through an alternate entrance.
However, protests were held against the Chief Justice on the road opposite the Supreme Court complex and near the parliament this morning with the participation of a large crowd.
Meanwhile, our news correspondents stated that attorneys at law in the Anuradhapura and Matara regions held protests against the impeachment in their respective court environs.
A meeting between the chief justice and all the judges of the island took place at the Supreme Court premises yesterday.
It was reported that at the conclusion of the meeting it was stated that the representatives of the Judges' Assembly will issue a joint statement.
