Contentions about excavations at Hanwalla - Abulgama temple.

Archaeological commissioner general Professor Senarath Disanayake states that as a result of construction activities taking place near Hanwalla – Abulgama Raja maha temple harm is caused to its archaelogical value.

As a result of a youth complaining that excavations were being carried out made on 27th November the Archaeological officers stopped the excavations in the temple temporarily.

On that occasion a contentious conversation took place as follows between the Chief incumbent of the Aembulgamra Rajamahaa Vihaaraya  Venerabl Dankande Bodhivansa Thero and the youth who had made the complaint.

Subsequently the archaeological officers held an investigation with regard to the construction there.

According to the investigation the Archaeological Commissioner General Prof. Senarat Dissanayake said that according to the investigations as a result of the constructions that have been now carried out in connection with the caves of the Temple harm had been caused to their archaeological value.
