The hunger strike launched by the parents of the students who receive education at the Galmulla-Bakamuna Junior School in Polonnaruwa is still underway.
The hunger strike was launched this morning against a proposed move to convert the school into a primary school.
Parents charge that they are financially unable to admit their children to other schools if the Galmulla Junior School is being converted into a primary school.
Students receiving education at the school were witnessed engaging in the protest clad in their school uniform.
Meanwhile parents had held 15 teachers attached to the school under house arrest at the premises of the college.
Subsequently the teachers were released based on the intervention of police.
When contacted the Zonal Education Director of Bakamuna stated that he was unable to comment on the incident.
