Two boys aged years 6 & 11 were killed this afternoon at the Galle – Talpe – Indighahawatta unprotected level crossing.

According to police the boys had been students of the Wallethota Sugathananda Vidyalaya.

Eye witnesses note that the victims had been hit by the Matara, Vavuniya express train while attempting to have crossed the level crossing.

Following this accident, the total death toll of rail road accidents has risen up to 20 this year.

The victim's corpses are currently lying at the morgue of the Karapitiya teaching hospital & are awaiting post mortem investigations.

Several area residents expressed the following views to our news team following the accident.

In the meanwhile a family of four travelling in a three-wheeler and another 6 individuals were killed upon collision with a train in Mahawa – Ambanpola – Kirimatiyaana.

The casualties who had attempted to make it a across an unprotected railway crossing in the area were residents of Heiyanthuduwa, Biyagama.
